SINGAPORE GP RACE NIGHT!!!

Day in photos:

Woke up and got wonton noodle, a SG staple:

Then ventured off to Chinatown where i found a 油條 stand:

:D :D :D :D

Later in the evening; at Marina Bay for the race!

For some reason they closed off most of the shooting areas that I had scoped out over the weekend... so I have a whole bunch of photos from this viewpoint. I pre-focused on the kerbs in the turn and fired away...

Here is Alonso being trailed by Barrichello and Kubica:

N. Heidfeld

K. Räikkönen

R. Kubica

Here is a pissed off Heidfeld after being taken out of the race by Adrian Sutil. His streak of finishing 33 races in a row came to an end...

The closest I've ever been to an F1 driver!!!!!!!!!!!

^F1 drivers are tiny!

Views from the Esplanade Drive straightaway were pretty nice:

It was hard to follow the cars on the straightaway though....

^the cars go REALLY FAST!!!

Hamilton ended up winning... here's another shot of downtown on my way out:

You're from where?!

Minnesota, eh? SWEET!

I had originally planned to grab dinner on Orchard Road and head to the GP Qualifying sessions. Then I met a kid from the US in the food court. He had studied in SG and now teaches in Vietnam. We ended up chatting the whole night and he showed me around the area. We grabbed Blizzards at a Dairy Queen after dinner. Ahhhh Singapore.

Earlier in the day, I checked out the main electronics shopping complex in the city. It's basically six levels of temptation... Shopping in the states should be like this...

Complete with great food in the basement. 小籠包 lunch combo! I was scolded for not grabbing a soup spoon.

^you need a spoon spoon or all the soup will spill out!!!

Along the way to the mall was La Salle Art College:

Which had many student made murals (like @ RIT).

After all the art, I dropped into the Singapore Art Museum (SAM); which had an interesting exhibit of Anthony Poon's work

If walking on the wrong side of the sidewalk was illegal in Singapore...

I'd probably be in the slammer.

Like Japan or England, Singapore drives on the opposite side of the road. Thus, sidewalk traffic follows the same pattern.

I have yet to catch on...

Day 1 in photos:

Bonne nuit Seattle.

Sunrise over the Pacific.

Good morning Hong Kong.

Hellllllllo Singapore!

Singapore and the F1 race weekend been incredible so far. The locals speak to me in Mandarin, which has turned out to be very good practice, and the food options are endless!!!

I've run into people from all around the world, and everyone has been relentlessly kind, selfless and friendly. I've gotten lost getting to the race with Roy, an Australian ex-pat who hates sidewalks and loves walking against traffic... and talked shop with French-Canadians and Brits. Also, the locals will come up and offer help if you look confused enough (which I'm very good at). It's been such a contrast from the states.

Homeboy Heidfeld

PS: It's OMG humid.
